Sam Fox

Ambassador Sam Fox served as the United States Ambassador to Belgium from 2007 to 2009.

A businessman from St. Louis, Missouri, Ambassador Fox is the founder of Harbour Group Ltd, a very successful private operating company that specializes in the acquisition, development and operation of high-quality companies. Prior to his service as Ambassador, he was the Company's Chairman and CEO. He returned to the company when his service was completed.

Ambassador Fox has long been extremely active in civic affairs in St. Louis. He has served in key leadership roles in the cultural, educational and charitable institutions of that city including the Saint Louis Symphony, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the Saint Louis Science Center, Civic Progress, the Boy Scouts, the Saint Louis Art Museum and the United Way.

He has also been a strong supporter of Washington University in St. Louis, serving as a Trustee and as Chairman of the Campaign for Washington University. In 2006, the University dedicated the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts in honor of his service.

Ambassador Fox has received numerous awards, including Honorary Doctorate of Public Service from Saint Louis University, Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Washington University, St. Louis Citizen of the Year, the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship, and in recognition of his humanitarian contributions to China and his company's role in the country's economic development, the Marco Polo Award from the People's Republic of China.

Ambassador Fox graduated with honors from Washington University and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He is married to Marilyn Widman Fox. They have five children.
