Council of American Ambassadors 25th Anniversary Gala

On May 6, 2008, the Council celebrated its 25th anniversary with a black-tie gala at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C.

On May 6, 2008, the Council celebrated its 25th anniversary with a black-tie gala at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. Over 200 guests attended, representing the administration, the Congress, the diplomatic corps and the foreign affairs and corporate communities in Washington. Many of the Council’s members were also in attendance, as well as the Council’s Walter and Leonore Annenberg Fellowship alumni.The gala culminated in the presentation of the Council’s Benjamin Franklin Award for Outstanding Diplomatic Service to James. A. Baker, III for his distinguished service to the United States of America. Having served in senior government positions under three U.S. Presidents and chaired or co-chaired many blue-ribbon panels, Mr. Baker’s public service record is unparalleled. Mr. Baker served as the nation’s 61st Secretary of State under President George H.W. Bush and as the 67th Secretary of the Treasury under President Ronald Reagan. From 1981 to 1985, he served as White House Chief of Staff to President Reagan. Mr. Baker’s record of public service began in 1975 as Under Secretary of Commerce to President Gerald Ford. It concluded with his service as White House Chief of Staff and Senior Counselor to President Bush from August 1992 to January 1993.
