Francis Rooney III

Ambassador Rooney is Chief Executive Officer of Rooney Holdings, Inc. He was first sworn in as the US Ambassador to the Holy See on October 13, 2005.

Ambassador Rooney serves on the Board of Advisors for the Panama Canal Authority, Republic of Panama. He is a Director of the Trust for the National Mall and a Trustee of The Center for the Presidency, both in Washington D.C. He serves as a trustee for the Naples Community Hospital Healthcare System and Naples Children and Education Foundation in Florida. He is a director of Helmerich and Payne, Inc. (NYSE) and he serves on the Advisory Council for the School of Architecture of the University of Notre Dame. In 2006, he was granted an honorary degree from the University of Notre Dame.

He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University in 1975 and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978. He is a member of the District Columbia and Texas Bars.

From 1991 to 1999 Ambassador Rooney was a Director of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and served as the International President of the organization from 1997-1998. He is also a member of the Southwest Florida Chapter of World Presidents' Organization and of the Chief Executives Organization (CEO). He is a member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and Federal Association.

He and his wife, Kathleen, live in Naples, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma. They have three children.
