Tom C. Korologos

Tom C. Korologos was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 25, 2004 and was sworn in as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium by the Chief Justice of the United States, William Rehnquist, on June 30, 2004. He is the 29th Ambassador of the United States to Belgium.

Ambassador Korologos has had a wide and varied Washington experience. He has served as a senior staff member in the U.S. Congress, as an assistant to two Presidents in the White House, was a prominent businessman, and most recently was a senior counselor with the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Baghdad. In addition, he was a long-time member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy and a charter member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors that has jurisdiction over all non-military U.S. Government radio and TV broadcasting overseas.

During his tour in Iraq from May to December 2003, Ambassador Korologos was responsible for all Coalition Congressional affairs including escorting members of Congress during their visits to Iraq. He also played a key role in passage of the President's Iraq reconstruction budget request.

Prior to going to Baghdad from 1975 to 2003, Ambassador Korologos was President and Chairman of the Executive Committee at Timmons and Company, a Washington D.C. consulting firm he co-founded.

His Washington experience has included several stints in advisory and pro bono activities including Director of Congressional Relations for President Reagan's transition in 1980-81; Director of Congressional Relations for the National Bipartisan (Kissinger) Commission for Central America; assisting Presidential appointees in numerous U.S. Senate confirmations; Senior advisor to Senator Bob Dole during his l996 Presidential campaign; and a member of the Bush-Cheney transition team in 2001.

Ambassador Korologos served in the Nixon and Ford Administrations as Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs (Senate) and served nine years under Senator Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah) as his chief of staff in the U.S. Senate.

Earlier in his career Ambassador Korologos was a journalist with the New York Herald Tribune, the Long Island Press, the Salt Lake Tribune and the Associated Press.

Ambassador Korologos was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1933. He was a U.S. Air Force officer from 1956 to 1957 and earned his B.A. degree at the University of Utah and in 1958 an M.S. degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where he received a Grantland Rice Fellowship and a Pulitzer Fellowship.

He is married to Ann McLaughlin Korologos, former U.S. Secretary of Labor in the Reagan Administration.
