CAA 35th Anniversary Celebration & Spring Conference

Last week the Council of American Ambassadors hosted its 35th Anniversary Celebration and Spring Conference. Events began on Monday, May 14 with a luncheon featuring a keynote address by Dr. Edwin Feulner, founder of The Heritage Foundation. In the evening, CAA members and guests attended the Council's 35th Anniversary Reception held at the Department of State's U.S. Diplomacy Center. CAA President Timothy Chorba, CAA Director Stuart Bernstein, Diplomacy Center Director Mary Kane and Meridian International Center's Senior Vice President Natalie Jones made remarks on this occasion.

On Tuesday, the Council's Spring conference entitled "Global Tour d'Horizon" commenced with introductory remarks from Senior Vice President Ambassadors G. Philip Hughes. Presentations followed by Dr. Nicholas N. Eberstadt on North Korea, Ms. Barbara Slavin on the future of the Iran Nuclear Deal, Dr. Steven A. Cook on Turkey's pivotal regional role, Ambassador Carla A. Hills on trade tensions and Ambassador Roger F. Noriega on Latin America with a focus on the dire situation in Venezuela. Ambassadors Robert M. Orr, Donald McHenry, William C. Eacho, Richard McCormack and Philip Hughes served as moderators. Select presentations are available on the CAA Live! podcast. Following the conference, CAA members and guests enjoyed a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Her Excellency Dina Kawar, Ambassador of Jordan to the United States. Ambassador Louise Oliver served as moderator.
