Challenges to NATO Panel 3 - Spring Conference 2022

This discussion, the third panel, is around the challenges posed to those countries in the Baltic region and the larger implications for NATO given the actions of Russia. Click here to watch. 

Moderator: Ambassador Aldona Wos, M.D. served as the Ambassador to Estonia and currently is the Interim President of The Institute of World Politics.

Panelists: Paul Goble (Institute of World Politics): is a longtime specialist on ethnic and religious questions in Eurasia. He was director of research and publications at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. He served as Vice Dean for social sciences and humanities at Audentes University in Tallinn, Estonia and a senior research associate at the EuroCollege of the University of Tartu in Estonia. He has served in various capacities in the U.S. State Department, the Central Intelligence Agency and the International Broadcasting Bureau as well as at the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

H.E. Radovan Javorčík (Ambassador of Slovakia to the United States): Radovan Javorčík assumed his duties as Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the United States in January 2021. Before arriving in Washington, Ambassador Javorčík served as Slovakia's Ambassador to NATO in Brussels. From 2011- 2015 he was Slovakia's Ambassador to Israel. He also has served as the Chief of Cabinet for two Deputy Foreign Ministers of Slovakia.

Ambassador Reka Szemerkényi (International Republican Institute): Dr. Szemerkényi is a recognized expert on transatlantic strategy, European security, energy security. Prior to joining the International Republican Institute (IRI), she was Executive Vice President of CEPA, the Center for European Policy Analysis (2017-2020). She served as Ambassador of Hungary to the United States (2015-2017); State Secretary, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister (2011-2015, 1998-2002); and Senior Advisor in the Ministry of Defense (1990-1994).
