The Council of American Ambassadors is pleased to remind members that the Department of State continues to recruit for and expand its Franklin Fellows Program, a one-year fellowship for mid- and upper-mid-career professionals from the private and non-profit sectors, including NGOs, academia, foundations and associations.
The Franklin Fellows Program, a unique public service/executive development initiative, is bringing high-caliber professionals into the Department in Washington, DC and to the U.S. Mission to the U.N. in New York to participate in foreign policy formulation and execution. Franklin Fellows will work on such vital global issues as economic, trade and energy policy; the environment; public diplomacy; democracy-building; human rights; avian influenza, HIV/AIDS and other trans-national heath problems; bilateral and multilateral diplomacy; and many others. Not only will Fellows provide fresh thinking and best practices to the policy process, but they also will return home with transferable skills and a greatly enhanced understanding of the State Department and larger U.S. Government. Such executive development will be of direct benefit to their sponsoring organizations and communities. Additional details on the Franklin Fellows Program can be found at www.careers.state.gov/FF.
The Department is accepting nominations for new Franklin Fellows to join the initial ones now on board. Resumes and queries may be submitted to William P. Pope, Senior Advisor for Fellows, at popewp@state.gov. Please note that candidates must be U.S. citizens, be able to obtain a security clearance and have at least five years of work experience.
