Ambassadors Roundtable with Michael DeSombre Former Ambassador to Thailand
Ambassador Michael DeSombre served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand until January of this year. After earning degrees from Stanford in Quantitative Economics (B.A.) and East Asian Studies (M.A.), Ambassador DeSombre graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude. Fluent in Mandarin, he brought a wealth of Asian experience to his ambassadorship in Bangkok. While resident in Hong Kong, he headed the Asian M & A and Private Equity practice of the international law firm Sullivan and Cromwell. In addition to discussion of his activities in Thailand, among which were military sales of aircraft and infantry vehicles and encouraging Thai enterprises to “go global”, Ambassador DeSombre’s presentation will include observations on the strategic interplay between China and the U.S. in East Asia as well as the importance of Thailand to a successful U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy.
